Research Interests

My research interests are statistical machine learning (in particular supervised learning; support vector machines and kernel methods), and its applications to pattern recognition, image processing, bioinformatics and natural language analysis. Major studies include improving the performances of support vector machines (SVMs) such as a fast learning method for low-rank kernel (applying second-order cone programming technique and its fast implementation), fast and effective learning method for large-scale multiclass support vector machine, investigating the best kernel for practical use, a method of tuning the parameter of Gaussian kernel. An efficient model has been developed for gene selection and classification for microarray data based on SVM-based criteria.
